Sweet 16

Yesterday morning after Melinda's flute lesson, our family picked up Grandma to go to the Rio. We gathered at the designated dining destination. Joshua chose Guapo's, a Mexican restaurant. We enjoyed our delectable meals of chimichangas, huevos rancheros, steak, chicken, and nachos. As an added surprise, the restaurant staff came out with glass of ice cream and a maraschino cherry on top. They gave Joshua a sombrero and sang Happy Birthday and clapped. Then they took a nice photo of him in a sombrero and the lighted candle on top of the ice cream and gave a printed copy for him.

Last night, Megan gave Joshua a puppet show that featured rhyming words with the "oo" sound. Here is the poem she made up:

Happy birthday to you!
Happy birthday to you!
Happy birthday dear Joshua!
Happy birthday to you!
Say oo! "oo!"
Switcharoo, kangaroo, peek a boo, lulluroo, Kalamazoo,
aaaawwwwwwooooooooooooooooooooooo!! Hhhhhhooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! (jumping animals) aaawwooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!! (wolf comes back jumping!)
HHHooooooooooooo!! (ghost floats away with wolf stays on stage)
(boing!) (kangaroo scares wolf)
(Then they live happily ever after)
(jump off stage)

Now here are the puppet pictures Megan made. Enjoy! Happy birthday, Joshua!

Christmas in Utah

This Christmas we decided to fly Breeze Airlines from Dulles Airport to Provo, UT.  And it was a breeze.  We were able to see Grace performance her dance.  Afterwards, she and her siblings had a photo op with Santa. We also were able to attend Sofia's Christmas concert at school.  Can you see Sofia? Our long-awaited family group photo at the Utah State Capitol turned out beautifully despite the cold.  Thanks, Veronica, for taking the photos. We are grateful for the time we had to spend time with our family during Christmas and New Years Eve.

Happy Holidays 2025

What an amazing year 2025 was for our family! Our list of adventures included a family reunion with my brothers in Chicago, a relaxing trip to Williamsburg and Virginia Beach with Jessica and Joshua, and a Church history tour of Palmyra and Kirtland with church friends. It was our first year of enjoying our first hybrid car. Having to add gas only once a month has simplified life and made it all worthwhile. We share our gratitude of these many blessings and hope that you, the reader, will have received lots of blessings as well this past year and many more in the coming year. This year, Ben has taught half-time at the local Montgomery College. He is serving as the mission leader at church to help new converts with the aid of the full-time missionaries. Li-Fang is enjoying herself by teaching oil painting and sewing at VisArts in Rockville and still continues to teach private piano. She is serving in the Relief Society, the women's organization in our church. Be...

2024 Chinese New Year

For the 2024 Chinese New Year, Year of the Dragon, we traveled all the way to DC.  Jonathan had surprised Li-Fang on her birthday.  Together with Joshua and Jonathan, we went to the Smithsonian American Art Museum for the cultural shows and crafts.  Lester, Li-Fang's nephew, met us there. We  also walked around the Asian Art Museum and walked to Reren Lamen restaurant for dinner. Yum yum!
