Birthday Surprise

With months of planning engineered by Jessica and coordinated by Dad and Melinda, the day of the amazing birthday surprise finally arrived. Melinda stayed at home to cook up a birthday dinner, which was already announced to and agreed upon by the birthday celebrity. In order to initiate the process, Dad picked up Megan from school and drove straight to the airport to pick up Jessica's family. We first surprised Grandma at her apartment. She kept asking why Jessica's family was there, but that was to be expected. Then we drove home. At the appointed time, Jessica's family concealed themselves in the community center across the street. Then Mom came home to the smell of a delicious dinner made by Melinda. But before we could start eating, Jessica Skyped Mom to wish her a happy birthday. A few minutes after hanging, the doorbell rang. Intentionally, Mom was left to open the door. When she opened the front door, her face lit up with both delight and surprise. She held Blake and still was in a state of unbelief that Jessica could be there right before her face. After lots of hugs, we sat down to a delicious dinner and a beautiful cake.  Receiving friends from afar, especially family from a long ways off, is the real fun part of life.  If family relationships can endure throughout the eternities, then I cannot wait.

Christmas in Utah

This Christmas we decided to fly Breeze Airlines from Dulles Airport to Provo, UT.  And it was a breeze.  We were able to see Grace performance her dance.  Afterwards, she and her siblings had a photo op with Santa. We also were able to attend Sofia's Christmas concert at school.  Can you see Sofia? Our long-awaited family group photo at the Utah State Capitol turned out beautifully despite the cold.  Thanks, Veronica, for taking the photos. We are grateful for the time we had to spend time with our family during Christmas and New Years Eve.

Happy Holidays 2024

2024 was Ben's first full year of retirement from full-time federal government service. However, he decided to continue teaching engineering classes part-time at the local Montgomery College and fulfilled a dream this fall in teaching a math class. He picked up pickle ball, worked on family history, and started other projects. This year Li-Fang served as a counselor in the Relief Society Presidency at church and coordinated almost weekly activities for the women. Among these were rehearsals for line dance, social dance, and Latin dance. She is still having fun teaching private piano to more than a dozen students and art and sewing at VisArts. In the summer, we visited our children in Utah and returned to Taiwan. We are grateful for life and its many beautiful blessings.   Merry Christmas from the Lin's! Life is good; kids are growing… In January, Trey is going to Primary and Blake will be going to Young Men's! Grace is still everyone’s frie...

Happy Holidays 2025

What an amazing year 2025 was for our family! Our list of adventures included a family reunion with my brothers in Chicago, a relaxing trip to Williamsburg and Virginia Beach with Jessica and Joshua, and a Church history tour of Palmyra and Kirtland with church friends. It was our first year of enjoying our first hybrid car. Having to add gas only once a month has simplified life and made it all worthwhile. We share our gratitude of these many blessings and hope that you, the reader, will have received lots of blessings as well this past year and many more in the coming year. This year, Ben has taught half-time at the local Montgomery College. He is serving as the mission leader at church to help new converts with the aid of the full-time missionaries. Li-Fang is enjoying herself by teaching oil painting and sewing at VisArts in Rockville and still continues to teach private piano. She is serving in the Relief Society, the women's organization in our church. Be...
